Employment Programs

Emotional regulation, or the lack of ability to regulate emotions, in employment settings, is one of the leading causes of job loss in Neurodivergent Adults. Based in neuroscience, this class uses a visual NeuroWeather system to take the guesswork and shame out of regulation. Participants will create a custom NeuroWeather map that includes how to identify when dysregulation is coming, what to do to avoid it, and how to communicate professionally in an employment setting, even when dysregulated.

This training is offered to those whose sensory processing differences are interfering with their employment and causing job loss, mistakes, difficulty finding employment, or interpersonal conflicts. Throughout five sessions, participants will learn how their sensory processing is affected by their disabilities and develop strategies to navigate employment without missing cues or getting overloaded.

For adults with Autism and ADHD, navigating daily routines and weekly planning to consistently get to work on time and have the stamina and endurance throughout the week to perform all work tasks can be a significant barrier. This training supports clients by creating daily routines that help them do everything they need to do to be ready to work, from getting a good night’s sleep to packing lunches and getting ready on time.

One of the most challenging parts of being newly diagnosed with Autism or ADHD is understanding how it impacts your ability to work and sustain long-term employment. This training goes beyond simply identifying underlying strengths and weaknesses by accounting for the effort required for specific job skills and requirements. Using the Invisible Disability Inventory, participants will be able to confidently identify specific essential functions to seek and avoid in employment and how to self-accommodate as needed.

While the traditional career exploration to job development track works for many OVRS clients, some need a different approach. Our services help your clients with invisible developmental disabilities, make the most of job development, and can even support setting job goals.

All of our services and programs are rooted deeply in an in-depth understanding of the nervous system and rehabilitation. Through online programs and in-session support, our services help neurodivergent adults identify and maintain sustainable employment that works with their needs, not against them.

In occupational therapy, you set the goals and focus of your sessions. We do not force you to participate in or use services you do not want; your goals are prioritized throughout our sessions.

*Autism Level 2 or 3 may benefit from our services, but this will depend on their motivation and interest, and on whether supports are available to help them access technology or services as needed.

Our services are offered entirely online, so being able to access them requires technology, not a lot, but enough that it’s worth mentioning. To access and use our services, you will need to:
Own and be comfortable operating a computer or tablet with a camera and a microphone.
Check email regularly for program materials and reminders.
Access a reliable high-speed internet connection
Use an online platform for telehealth sessions.

Occupational Therapy is a rehabilitation profession, and one in which people must have the capacity to engage. When clients participate in our programs, they can expect:
Weekly Sessions: We meet each week at the same time for an hour
Between Sessions: Actively practice and apply the concepts and strategies discussed and developed in sessions.
Please note: We are not a crisis service, and when people are in an active crisis, participating in our programs is not advised.
